The You Ess Aae has gone nuts. Officially

The oldest democracy in the world. Secular as hell. Tolerant to all religions. Separation of religion and the state. (Not counting the minor fact that "In God We Trust" is something found on every single fucking dollar bill).

What *Bull*. The bloody war on terror is leading me to increasingly doubt the state of affairs here. No this is not a sudden conclusion. I've felt something of the sort for a long time now. But the final straw?

The hypocrisy. Double standards. Now that the US has a female speaker for the first time, to quote, 'The most powerful politically elected woman in the history of the USA', and who's also second in line to the presidency according to normal protocol - EVERY SINGLE magazine and newspaper's talking about it. And making an example of it, ostensibly, to the world. Wake UP people, countries like the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and India, not to mention the UK and Germany have had fucking *Heads of State* who've been women. This is not a big deal at all. For the US, yes. For the world, NO.

But, whats even more blood boiling?
In an op-ed piece in freaking _USA TODAY_, Virgil Goode, an obviously deranged Senator wrote, "I believe that if we do not stop illegal immigration totally, reduce legal immigration and end diversity visas, we are leaving ourselves vulnerable to infiltration by those who want to mold the United States into the image of their religion, rather than working within the Judeo-Christian principles that have made us a beacon for freedom-loving persons around the world." (Emphasis Mine) Riiiggghttt. I'm SURE they have.

WTF.

'Beacon of freedom-loving persons.' - You've got love that line. Their own freedom, obviously, that extends conveniently beyond their national borders, as far as they want.

Hah. Really - that goes on my list of all time favorite dysfunctional quotes. Ever.

I was at this casino in Lake Charles. Went to the restroom to pee. Right above the urinal, straight in my face I see a sticker.

It read "Taking back America for White Americans - A society not afraid to campaign for the superiority of the white race and bring it's domination back to the forefront. Call us on #%&$#& today to make a donation!"

I've never peed and left a restroom so quickly in my life.

(Add to that my "moslem" looking goatee... *sigh*)

O well.....thats the US of A for you.

@nonedone - whoa. That sounds scary. I'm not quite sure what to think though. I would guess that like everywhere else, there are two schools of thought in the US and we probably only see sporadic evidence of the latter - the hateful one. It would be interesting to see if anyone's ever researched on something like this :)

@STS - heh, thats pretty matter of fact. I would've expected more .. reaction :)

Sweet Jesus. WTF? The conservative right wing god fearing types really scare me you know.

Anyway, the funniest thing I read recently was that apparently there are illegal Mexican workers working in some states to build that insane wall they have going up. It was too funny.

Hate to nitpick, especially since i concur with all you said. But India, Pakistan and Germany have not had female heads of states i.e. the President. (unless of course you count Mallika Victoria in the 19th century).

Oscar Wilde of course, has one of the best lines on America. "
America had often been discovered before Columbus, but it had always been hushed up. " and

@STS - haha, publish it. There's not much you'd be saying which is new or not already published!

@szerelem - absolutely. that senator REALLY pisses me off with the kind of statements that've been made.

As for the wall - hehe, I can imagine its true. Theres a part of the wall in California as well. And this is higlighted by a funny docu-comedy called "A Day Without Mexicans", about how all the mexicans in California suddenly vanish - and the 7th largest independent economy in the world just stops functioning! _Hilarious_

@Red - ah yes, heads of state as in heads of government perhaps. In all the countries mentioned, the President is pretty much the ceremonial HOS. The PM otoh is the actual power-person. Not that Pelosi is ever going to ascend the presidency - I'm sure Sonia was in a similar position when she gave up the hotseat.
